Week 5 Review: The Beast

From Goodreads:
Nothing is as it used to be for the Black Dagger Brotherhood. After avoiding war with the Shadows, alliances have shifted and lines have been drawn. The slayers of the Lessening Society are stronger than ever, preying on human weakness to acquire more money, more weapons, more power. But as the Brotherhood readies for an all-out attack on them, one of their own fights a battle within himself…

For Rhage, the Brother with the biggest appetites, but also the biggest heart, life was supposed to be perfect—or at the very least, perfectly enjoyable. Mary, his beloved shellan, is by his side and his King and his brothers are thriving. But Rhage can't understand—or control—the panic and insecurity that plague him…

And that terrifies him—as well as distances him from his mate. After suffering mortal injury in battle, Rhage must reassess his priorities—and the answer, when it comes to him, rocks his world...and Mary's. But Mary is on a journey of her own, one that will either bring them closer together or cause a split that neither will recover from...

My Review:
Another great book in this series! Mary hasn't really been a part of this series-really the only lady that has a role beyond her initial book is Jane, so yeah, I really enjoyed catching up with her and Rhage! And of course, they have issues, because happily ever after takes work!

One thing that made me mad, was the slur, rats without tails. It wasn't a part of the earlier series, but it's been popping up with more frequency in these later books. And 2 Brothers use it who didn't before-Rhage and V. Who both have humans as mates. Yeah.

One thing that was brought up, was that V brought the birds to his mom, and how that be a good son impulse stopped, especially since she's been a no show with all the bad things that have happened, like Wrath being shot. It gave continuity, that little thing from 5+ books away, being mentioned again!

I really enjoyed Mary's journey. Working at Safe Place, she sees a lot of trauma. And one case hit particularly close to home, with seeing her mom die in the hospital. Loved how she had to deal with her issues, and created a close bond with Bitty!

I really enjoyed this book, and I'm super pumped for The Chosen, because Layla and Xcor's story has had seeds in many previous books!
