Week 10 Review: Lake Silence

From Goodreads:
In this thrilling and suspenseful fantasy, set in the world of the New York Times bestselling Others series, Vicki DeVine and her lodger, the shapeshifter Aggie Crowe, stumble onto a dead body . . . and find themselves enmeshed in danger and dark secrets.

Human laws do not apply in the territory controlled by the Others–vampires, shapeshifters, and paranormal beings even more deadly. And this is a fact that humans should never, ever forget . . .

After her divorce, Vicki DeVine took over a rustic resort near Lake Silence, in a human town that is not human controlled. Towns like Vicki's have no distance from the Others, the dominant predators that rule most of the land and all of the water throughout the world. And when a place has no boundaries, you never really know what's out there watching you.

Vicki was hoping to find a new career and a new life. But when her lodger, Aggie Crowe–one of the shapeshifting Others–discovers a dead body, Vicki finds trouble instead. The detectives want to pin the man's death on her, despite the evidence that nothing human could have killed the victim. As Vicki and her friends search for answers, things get dangerous–and it'll take everything they have to stay alive.

My Review:
I was anticipating reading this book so much! I read the excerpt on her site so many times, and I checked my request on NetGalley pretty much every day, though in the end, the publication date came around before my request was denied or approved. But that just meant I could read the book! And it was so great!

We were introduced to a new species of Other, the Sproingers, who were so freaking cute, and I loved how they were dangerous, because they were so cute, and to be that dangerous...was an excellent juxtaposition!

We also met a ton of new characters since this book does take place in a different area. Vicki, who was abused by her ex, Aggie Crowe, Vicki's renter and testing the waters for the Others, Officer Wayne Grimshaw who didn't want responsibility beyond being an officer, Julian who knew Grimshaw at cop school and is also a Inuit, Ilya Sanginati, the one in charge of the Other's paperwork and such and protecting their interests-which is why he became Vicki's lawyer. They were a wonderful cast of characters and I really enjoyed getting to know them!

The bad guys were just plain awful! That they wanted this property and were willing to use any means to get it, lie, cheat, threaten, and they would've harmed Vicki, if the good guys weren't pre-warned. That they produced a document that they forged Vicki's signature on that said that she had a certain amount of time to get the place ready, or her ex-husband would get it back, that just enraged me!

This book was really incredible, and I can't wait for the Bennett book which is next in the series, Wild Hunger!
